Nominations
Anyone can nominate a person or service for an award, however, the person nominating should have a good knowledge and understanding of quality education and care such as a service director, educational leader or school principal.
It’s easy to complete a nomination.
- Check that the person or service meets the eligibility criteria for the award category.
- Collect all of the required information to complete the online form.
- Complete the online nomination form.
- Submit. You will receive a confirmation email.
Award eligibility
Each nominee must meet all of the eligibility criteria for the award category they are being nominated for.
Nominated educators will be asked to provide evidence of their qualification/s before their nomination can be considered by the judging panel.
Details of the nominee’s current supervisor, director or service provider are also to be provided in the nomination form.
Award nominations can be received from the community, parents and carers and the education and care services. Educators can also nominate themselves for an award.

Outstanding Educator
- Educator works in an early childhood education and care service or program in the Northern Territory including; long day care, family day care, kindergarten, preschool, outside school hours care, playgroups or other service catering for children aged from birth to 5 years (up to 12 years of age for OSHC).
- Educator consistently demonstrates exceptional behaviour and commitment to improving their skills and ensuring quality outcomes for children.
- Educator is not a qualified early childhood teacher.
- Educator must hold or be actively working towards an approved certificate or diploma qualification.
- Educator’s nomination is endorsed by their supervisor or service provider.

Outstanding Aboriginal Educator
- Educator is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Nominated educators will be contacted to provide confirmation of Aboriginality from a recognised Aboriginal authority prior to their nomination being considered by the judging panel.
- Educator works in an early childhood education and care service or program in the Northern Territory including; long day care, family day care, kindergarten, preschool, outside school hours care, playgroups or other service catering for children aged from birth to 5 years (up to 12 years of age for OSHC).
- Educator is committed to delivering quality practice and achieving positive outcomes for children.
- Educator must hold or be actively working towards an approved certificate or diploma qualification.
- Educator’s nomination is endorsed by their supervisor or service provider.

Outstanding Early Childhood Teacher
- Educator works in an early childhood education and care service or program in the Northern Territory including; long day care, family day care, kindergarten, preschool, outside school hours care, playgroups or other service catering for children aged from birth to 5 years (up to 12 years of age for OSHC).
- Educator is committed to delivering quality practice and achieving positive outcomes for children.
- Educator must hold an ACECQA approved degree qualification.
- Educator’s nomination is endorsed by their supervisor or service provider.

Outstanding Leader
- Educator works in an early childhood education and care service or program in the Northern Territory including; long day care, family day care, kindergarten, preschool, outside school hours care, playgroups or other service catering for children aged from birth to 5 years (up to 12 years of age for OSHC).
- Educator demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities and contribute to continuous quality improvement in service/program delivery
- Educator has worked in the early childhood sector in Australia for more than three (3) years.
- Educator must hold a formal, ACECQA approved qualification.
- Educator’s nomination is endorsed by their supervisor or service provider.

Outstanding Education and Care Program (2024 theme – evidence-based practice for continuous improvement)
- The early childhood education and care service or program that has embedded evidence-based practice to improve upon programs, practices or outcomes for children.
- The program must be led by at least one early childhood educator or teacher who holds an ACECQA approved qualification.
- Early childhood education and care service or program is located in the Northern Territory.
- Early childhood education and care service or program caters for children aged from birth to 5 years (12 years for OSHC services).
- Early childhood education and care service or program type is; outside school hours care, long day care, family day care, kindergarten, preschool, playgroup, Families as First Teachers or other service type that is not part of a formal schooling program from the year Transition onwards.
- Nomination is endorsed by the supervisor or service provider. Details of current supervisor, director or service provider required within the nomination form.
Evidence
Shortlisted nominations will be required to provide evidence to the judging panel that demonstrates the programs delivery and evaluation. This could include: photographs, videos, work samples and educator evaluations.
Permissions
Services and programs must ensure that they have written permission from parents and staff to share documentation of the program with the NT Education and Care Awards. This documentation may be used at the Award Ceremony and for promotional purposes on the NT Education and Care Awards Website.

By submitting a nomination form you consent to the Department of Education disclosing the personal information you have provided to a third party – Early Childhood Australia, who are the judging coordinator for the 2024 NT Education and Care Awards. Personal information of finalist who live outside of the Darwin and Palmerston areas will also be provided to Child Australia, who are coordinating travel assistance.
